So you’ve probably heard about Pareto’s law, Pareto’s principle, the 80-20 rule or any of its many other names. If you haven’t its about time..

The law

The idea is named after and Italian economist that in 1896 wrote a paper on how 80% of the land in Italy was owned by 20% of the population. Later on it was realized that the 80-20 split is quite frequently occurring in different places (Not exactly 80-20, but roughly).

The idea is quite simple really: 80% of the effects will come from 20% of the causes.

Now what?

How does this apply to your daily life and reaching success? Well simply put it you should pareto’s law everything in your life!

For example:

  • 80% of your progress comes from 20% of your work
  • 80% of your sales come from 20% of your clients
  • 80% of your problems come from 20% of your behavior
  • and so on

What is important here is to try and identify those 20%’s and focus on correcting them to get the most out of your work. This is as close as you will get to a “quick fix” for your problems in life. Basically putting effort where it will pay off the most.

Although I’m telling people to bust their asses of to reach success it doesn’t mean that they should work just to work. If the work you’re doing isn’t paying of in the short or long term there is no use to do it.. But at that moment, when you are putting your ass to the grass, then it matters where you put your effort!

Hope you’ve enjoyed this short and simple lesson! Feel free to share it on to someone who might have use of this simple principle.
