Arnold Schwarzeneggers 6 rules of success

Listen to the Terminator that won 7 Mr Olympia medals and became governor.

Image with Arnold Schwarzenegger and 6 steps to success: 1.Trust yourself. 2. Break some rules. 3.Don't be afraid to fail. 4.Ignore the naysayers. 5.Work like hell. 6.Give somethin back.

I stumbled upon an awesome video by Arnold Schwarzenegger (darn that is always hard to spell without looking it up).

In the video he speaks about the 6 important rules in life when working towards success. Arnold’s motivational stuff is always really inspiring, especially after reading his autobiography “Total recall” where it’s written about all the insane things he has accomplished in life. (I’ll write up a review of the book later)

The 6 rules

1. Trust yourself

Who do you want to be? What makes you happy? This is so key! Don’t care what others think of you and what you do as long as you are happy yourself. (Also don’t compare yourself to others).

2. Break the rules

It is impossible to succeed in life and be unique if you follow the rules and never do anything out of the ordinary. All the revolutionary guys in the world have gone against the crowd. Steve Jobs and Bill Gates for example dropped out of college. (btw don’t drop out of college unless you have a clear idea and purpose)

3. Don’t be afraid to fail

Push yourself and don’t get paralyzed by fear. There is a book on this subject called Fail fast, fail often going through why it’s so important to try and fail rather than not try at all.

“I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” – Michael Jordan

4. Don’t listen to the naysayers

Haters gonna hate.. Don’t listen to people who don’t understand the journey you are on. Some people are just so stuck in their way and the only thing they can do is to hate on others. Arnold says that if someone tells you “no one has ever done that before”, you should be motivated to be the first person to ever do that thing.

5. Work your butt off

Nothing comes for free. Work your ass off and keep hustling. When it gets hard keep on pushing through. There are 24hrs a day of which 8 (or more) you sleep. Only 16 left to become successful. And everyone have the same amount of time on their hands. What will you do to beat the rest?

6. Giving back

Always find time to give something back. This could be helping other reach their goals or donating money to charities. Anything really that will help others. One of the 6 human needs according to Tony Robbins is contributing, or giving back.

  1. Good article thanks for posting this man. I love Arnold Shwartzenneger so I was glad to see this. I think the “dont listen to the naysayers” point is especially important because even your friends and family will try to stifle you when you are doing great things, its just part of their social conditioning and own limitations. Its also important to break the rules and not be afraid to fail, while trusting yourself haha, they all work together.

    • Yea there are many things to remember when trying to achieve success. I’ve realized many times that I relearn concepts that I’ve forgotten to implement and that it would be awesome if one could constantly implement all the good mindsets continuously.

  2. I love these tips! Very much my own kind of mindset

  3. Awesome article! Everyone who wants to become successful has to follow these 6 rules. Period.

  4. Love this post especially since I’m a huge fan of arnold. I love that Michael Jordan quote, didn’t know he failed so much and yet everyone knows who he is.. good stuff thanks for sharing

  5. Great post, I worked for Arnold in 07′ he’s not that big in person! hehehe But really though he’s accomplished so much and has failed so many times prior to making it and I truly admire his ambition. Those six tips are really good too, because some people will do some but not all but that’s exactly why they’re not exceeding. I like the last one especially- to give back- and I used to do that all of the time and wonder why I wasn’t getting ahead but I was missing the other steps first. 🙂

  6. Love this post not only because I’m a big fan of Arnold’s but also because of the lessons this article imparts. I especially love the “not to fear failure” part because if we’re too careful and always on the safe side, we may never meet success anytime in the near future. Sometimes we have to be bold and not be afraid to take risks!

  7. AWESOME MAN! Arnold is one of my role models. Can’t believe how much he’s accomplished in his life… he’s definitely someone that knows the keys to success.

  8. Thanks for the article Nathan. Personally I love this video by Arnold https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJPRj19OU-w. Truly inspirational. For me “Don’t Be Afraid To Fail” is probably the most important rule. Learning to embrace failure and reframe it as part of the process that we call success is very important. Failure and success are not separate things.

  9. This is so great I was just reading about Arnold after an updated copy of think and grow rich….This guy really blows me away I had no idea his accomplishments when he just put his head into! Thank you for this.
